Author's Note

The End of Story #3

We have reached the end of Story #3. As always, we welcome comments, criticisms (constructive ones, please), and questions. We also encourage readers to share potential ideas for the next story.

We will begin the next story in approximately two weeks time. I'm estimating it will begin on the 18th or 19th.

UPDATE: The posts for Story #3 have been moved to their own home at www.quickstick.com/story3 and the slate on this spot has been cleaned off in preparation for the next story. Stay tuned - It will begin either Sunday the 18th or Monday the 19th. It's fictionman's turn to write the first post, and we haven't even discussed what we'll be writing next, so it should prove interesting.

Author's Note

Due to fictionman having to get up at an ungodly hour this morning to attend a conference in another state for work, we will not be posting to the story today. We will resume again tomorrow.

Also, there has been a recent problem with spam commenting on this story. As a result, I am going to close all commenting on past entries. For the moment, we will still leave comments open on the current entries and I will go in and close them after a certain amount of time (probably once a week). This ought to take me less time than it has been to delete all the spam and rebuild the site over and over again. If the spam continues to be a problem, we may have to close commenting entirely, but we will always welcome comments by e-mail from our legitimate readers.

I will be closing off all comments and trackback pings on past stories as well. I just don't have the time to keep deleting the stuff and we're not here to be someone else's link hoard to boost their google rating. If you have comments for us on the past stories, you may e-mail either myself or fictionman through the e-mail links on our personal web sites (which we have links to in the sidebar on the right). I'll also be adding a note in about this to the rules page when I update it (which I forgot to do when we started this story! Oops!).

I appologize for the change. The Movable Type blacklist plug-in didn't work right when I tried to install it at one point and the usual methods have just gotten to be too much work to keep up with the constant spam. The newer version of MT costs money if there is more than one author on the blog, and we aren't in a position to pay for it at the moment with a two-year-old and another baby on the way. I will try to keep commenting on the most current posts open for as long as the spammers stay away.

Authors' Note:

Due to the holiday, Winter Solstice, there will be no posts on Wednesday, December 21st. We plan to return again on December 22nd and 23rd, although it is possible we won't post over the weekend of Christmas festivities as well, as we will be attending a couple of family events on those days. After that, our posts should return to the usual daily schedule again.

We hope that all of our readers and their families have a happy and safe holiday season!

Author's Note / Advance Warning

Since there's no entry today, I thought I'd also add a note to warn readers that we are coming up on my due date for our second child to be born! Sometime between now and March 15th I will be having a baby (they're talking about inducing me on the 14th if I haven't given birth by then). This means that there will probably be as much as a week of downtime here on Quick Shtick beginning the day (or day before) the baby is born. Either fictionman or I will likely post something here to let you know, but at the very least there will be posts on our personal blog sites - probably including pictures and so on of the new baby. Hopefully the cuteness will make up for the lack of story during that time.

I just thought I'd warn you all before it happens. Thanks, in advance, for your patience when we take the time off, coming soon.

Due to the holiday, and subsequent family gathering, we just don't have time to post today. We're still working out logistics on how to get everything done around here with our latest little addition to our family. Don't worry, we'll get the hang of all of this within a couple of months.

So, barring interruption from our daughter again, we will resume our regularly scheduled writing tomorrow...

Due to continued internet problems, we were unable to post today. We have the phone company coming to inspect the lines tomorrow since we're on DSL and I think it's a problem in our phone connections since we've tried to troubleshoot everything else. However, the phone company won't be here until sometime after fictionman leaves for work, so there won't be a post tomorrow either. Also, we will be away for the holiday weekend, so although you might see posts on Friday morning (no guarantees though) we won't be back on schedule until Monday or Tuesday, depending on when we actually get back home. I guess when it rains, it pours. Don't worry, we'll get this all figured out and back on schedule eventually, although we will be taking the occasional weekend breaks over the summer since we joined a group that goes camping once a month. But, considering we normally do weekends... well, just be happy for us for actually having lives now and again eh? We'll keep the story moving as best as our lives let us. That much I can promise.

Thanks for hanging in there with us!

Well, it looks like that's the end of Story 4. We've got some ideas for what we're going to do with the next one, but we're open to suggestions and we'd definitely welcome feedback.

We'll take a couple of weeks off before starting #5. In the mean time, you can email or leave comments to let us know what you thought of this one. (Subtle hint, eh?)

Just to let you know, we hope to have the first post of the new story up by the end of the week at the latest. Part of what we wanted to focus in on this time was the world setting, and we've decided to pull from a world I previously created for a pen & paper roleplaying game that fictionman had designed some years back. The story will be set in a fantasy world again, and we will begin in the Human nation of New Callest. I had to dig out a bunch of notes, some of which we are still reading though, so we know what exists there already. We're also taking the story some years beyond when the game happened in, so that we don't conflict with that storyline at all, which occurred during "The Flesh Wars". Move ahead 20 or 30 years and they should be fully recovered from the atrocities that happened, thus making the poor peoples of New Callest available for more drama and torment... err... happenings. Yeah.

There's also the slight technical matter of me moving the web stuff around to make room for the new posts, and getting the last story into a little spot of it's own. That won't take me long, but I've got a lot of other stuff going on that takes up time too right now, so it's tricky to set aside a couple hours to do it in.

Anyway, we're hoping to begin soon - maybe a couple of days, maybe the end of the week. Stay tuned for the next new exciting story!
